Use Art as a Release
Draw, paint, or sculpt something that can be destroyed the minute you complete it. Better yet, write emotions and thoughts associated with your trauma or concerns on the art. The act of destroying it will provide a sweet release.
Be With Nature
Find a way to be with nature, such as walking, outdoor exercise, reading, or gardening. Listen to the birds, wind, and sounds that will enhance the quieter you become. Nature has been proven to boost your well-being.
Selfless Creativity
Create or cook something for another person. The act of making something and giving it away will not only build connections, but boost feelings associated with happiness, accomplishment and self-worth.
Collage Thoughts
If painting, drawing, or writing isn't your thing, try collaging images together to create a vision board of your future or the feeling about your trauma to help process it more clearly. Magazines, newspapers, old images, or your own photography are all fair game.
Listen to an Audiobook or Podcast
Listen to books, presentations, podcasts, TedTalks, or Youtube videos that may expand your skills, perception and knowledge on a topic that interests you.
Organize Your Home
Clutter leads to stress and a cluttered home may be enhancing your triggers or stresses. Taking time to organize can not only be therapeutic but result in a greater feeling of having a personal sanctuary.
Bake or Cook New Recipes
Eating the same meals can contribute to a feeling of boredom and ritual that you don't necessarily want to continue. Look up a recipe and try something new with out without your family.
Spa Day
Toak in a tub and pamper yourself. Spend one day a week or once a month doing something for your face, skin, and body.
Take an Art Class
Want to make art but not sure how to start? Sign up for a painting or pottery class in your local community. Bring a friend or loved one!
Fashion Expression
Style and how you express yourself is an underrated form of healing. Wanting a change? Don't be afraid to get that haircut, buy that outfit or purchase something that feeds that creative part of you. The saying, "When you look good, you feel good." is absolutely true!
